Industrial designs

An industrial design is a registered design of a product, which is new and has individual character.

A design means the appearance of the entire product (e.g., chair, table, door) or its part (e.g., doorknob), which is derived from the characteristics of the lines, contours, colours, shapes, textures, and materials of the product itself or its ornamentation.
A design is new if, before the date of filing the industrial design application or priority date, the same design has not yet been made available to the public.

A design is considered to be identical if its features differ only in immaterial details.

An individual character of a design requires that the overall impression that a design makes on the informed user differs from the overall impression produced by any other design of a product that was available to the public before the filing date or priority date.

Our legal office is the official representative for the registration of industrial designs:

  • In the Republic of Slovenia (national industrial design registration).
  • At the level of the European Union (registration of Community Industrial Designs (RCD) with effect throughout the EU). We are authorized to represent the clients from all of the member states of the European Union.
  • At the international level (on the basis of the so-called Haag Agreement, in 82 member states).

We provide representation in industrial design registration procedures, and provide advice regarding maintenance, validity, and industrial design changes.
